KELVANS
Something New in Downtown:
Testimonial: I had a great meal – rib eye special with onion and grape marmalade (I was thinking what are you doing putting fruit on my rib eye). The rib eye was a perfectly marbled, melt in your mouth steak. The grape and onion was an unusually good addition to a great steak, and a lot more interesting than most steak houses are doing.
The staff is exceptionally nice and attentive. The ginormous panko breaded mozzarella sticks were a completely different experience than the deep fried cheese sticks that most restaurants serve. The mesculin greens with goat cheese, pecans, and balsamic dressing was really nice way to recover from the huge mozz sticks. I also tried the sesame chicken with ginger scallion hoisin sauce appetizer. They seem to have forgotten that they are cooking in Vermont.
The standard menu is mostly salads, sandwiches, and burgers, and the entrees change as specials. It’s a really comfortable and casual space with nice patio in the back. Kelvans offers a range of food that can accommodate the urge for cheese-steaks and burgers to the hankering for something a little more exceptional.
Little Harry’s
Welcome to Little Harrys! An Oasis for the Passionate Appetite
Testimonial: Don’t be Fooled by Tiny Sign – Fantastic Restaurant in Rutland” This was quite a surprise we stumbled upon in Rutland a week ago. Almost non-descript entrance with tiny neon sign, hides this gem in downtown Rutland Center. Started out with the grilled beef satay in spicy peanut sauce – incredibly good, grilled to perfection, awesome peanut sauce. Entrees we tried were the Thai Red Curry – included grilled corn, julienned carrots and lots more – a fantastic interpretation of this classic dish, and, the grilled caesar salad which reminded us of a similar serving years ago in France on Bastille Day. This serving included grilled romaine heart, garlic cloves, incredible dressing and croutons like never before experienced. Exquisite. This was our first, of many (hopefully) future visits. Highly recommended.

THE YELLOW DELI
In the South, where cotton grows high and life is simple, the little Yellow Deli started up about this time. It was to go on a course unimagined…
Chattanooga, Tennessee became the home of the first Yellow Deli, opening its doors in May of 1973. Serving healthy food in the midst of a “fried-chicken-culture”, the deli was an immediate success. Finally, there was something different. We served luscious fruit salads, great sandwiches, fresh garden salads, and homemade desserts. Something about the warm, rustic atmosphere drew people like a magnet.
