Michael Divoll encouraged
me to submit a design proposal to All Aboard Rutland,
which was an exciting prospect for me as an emerging
artist. My design is based on the feeling I always
get when I'm on my way home from being away for
any length of time — I can breathe better,
my stress level goes way down, I look forward to
my first sight of the mountains around Rutland.
Turning those feelings into a poem or a series
of connected thoughts led to memories of what I
anticipated as a child and my experiences with
train travel, and so the idea of a collage
was born.
Thanks go especially to Michael Divoll for getting
me started, and for his generous encouragement.
Thanks, too, to all my family, and to Anne Marie
and Charlotte for their support and inspiring conversations.
And ultimate thanks go to all the people in the
Creativity group of the MA Program at Vermont
College in Montpelier. Without their collective
example, I never would
have even attempted this.
