Proctor has a rich
marble history. Vermont Marble Company virtually
built the town of Proctor, and at its peak the company
employed several thousand people in the Proctor
area. As early as 1785 local marble was being used
to make headstones. Today the history of the town
is still evident. The Proctor Jr. Sr. High School's
mascot, the Phantom, was named after the white marble
school and its resemblance to this ghostly creature.
One can't miss the marble decorating the town’s
buildings, bridge, and sidewalks.
We would like to thank Keith Gallagher for help
with construction details and Ms. Wolgamott's Art
1 class for sculpting the birds.
