The Downtown Rutland Partnership (DRP) once again hosted a contest to celebrate the best downtown district decorations. This year’s winners are: Most Traditional – DesJardins Rochon Jewelers (7 Center Street); Most Original – Timco Jewelers (59 Center Street); Judge’s Favorite – Hawley’s Florist (29 Center Street); People’s Choice – Cavalieri Insurance Agency Inc. (51 Merchants’ Row).
The DRP adorns the city’s historic district with street decorations each year creating a backdrop for the decorating efforts of the individual business and property owners. ”It really is a joint effort to decorate downtown. We appreciate the hard work that everyone put into their businesses and buildings this year. It’s hard to pick a winner, there were so many to choose from. In the end, we all win because our downtown looks beautiful and festive for the holidays”, said Michael Coppinger, Executive Director of DRP.
This year judging was increased to a panel of 10, consisting of downtown business representatives and a student from the Castleton State College Art Program. Judges voted over the weekend based on three areas of interest; most traditional, most original and judge’s favorite. Criteria were also expanded to include interior and exterior décor. Winners will be featured in DRP co-op ads in Rutland Magazine.
Also new this year was the introduction of a ‘People’s Choice’ Award. Primarily via votes on the Partnership’s Facebook page the general public voted for their favorite downtown decorations. Cavalieri Insurance Agency Inc. was the winner in this category and will receive a grant toward an interior or exterior improvement to their prominent corner location at Merchant’s Row and West Street.
The Downtown Rutland Partnership congratulates this year’s winners and encourages everyone to tour downtown this season and enjoy the beautiful holiday decorations.
